Fostering authentic connection is right at the heart of my work. After decades of reading and learning to apply the best research we have, I know that kind of authenticity starts with a mixture of curiosity, appropriate vulnerability, and courage. If you’re considering a call with me to explore executive coaching or bringing me to your organization, here are some things I want you to know.

Building the Connections Over Time
When I look back on my early career and choices I see that so much of what I care most deeply about today was already coming to the surface, even then. But it took a long time to connect all the dots and digressions that actually added up to my core strengths and life-giving work I’m so passionate about now. Maybe that feels familiar to you, too? Here’s the short version of how I wound up invested as a full-time professor and seasoned executive coach for women.
1990s
My early teaching experiences began overseas (Taiwan). So many of the core concerns in my life were already present: mentoring, empowering girls and women, and exploring what better communication skills can mean in someone’s life.
2000s
After pivoting to high-powered roles in corporate America in my 20s I found some early-career success — and many challenges. Still working within the communications industry, I gained invaluable insights about power dynamics in the workplace that helped fuel my curiosity about how to meet those challenges, or make a difference.
2010s
By the time I was 30, I made a bold move: leaving the C-Suite track for a PhD and serious academic career. There was so much I didn’t know … but I knew enough at this point to commit to digging into the best research available and honoring my love for teaching, mentoring, and working to build the confidence of all my students.
2020s
As the world got rocked by the global pandemic, I was marking the 10-year anniversary of my work as an executive coach, consultant, and keynote speaker alongside my full-time, tenure-track academic career. And that’s been a wonderful path to keep pursuing. My teaching and ongoing research fuel my executive coaching for women strategies, and my executive coaching work fuels my work in the classroom and in one-on-one relationships with students.
